Tanner Pruett - VHR - 11/2

 Sadie C.

-shoulders might be rising too much on inhalation

-a more grounded stance could help breath support

-straight tone makes me think there could be more breath support and a fully sound (vibrato was starting to come out during the end of phrases)

Lauren C.

-the tone is on the "airy" side

-great stance; the chest is a little collapsed, preventing proper breath support

-straight tone; may be a stylistic choice, but I think there would be more fullness and brilliance with vibrato

Archer D.

-kind of a pop sound (small riffs and a lightly airy sound); could be a stylistic choice, but "musical theatre sound" might be more efficient

-avoid excess hand usage (make it intentional so it's more powerful)

-as the dynamic increases, the breath support does too (keep it at the increased level throughout the range)

-don't pull away from the higher notes, lean into them (adding nasality might help the placement)

-I can hear some "tenor" in his voice, I think he has more range in his belt

Tanner D.

-I can hear his vibrato wanting to break free from the straight tone; this is the type of song to let that happen!

-some issues with the Italian; find the correct vowel and don't modify it

-sound is a little "young," more breath support on the lower notes and more focused vowels could help

Lily G.

-I can hear a ton of improvement since the last time I heard her!

-Maybe find more vibrancy on every note

-in her transition into first passaggio, using the breath more efficiently could help higher notes more focused

-make every vowel as focused as your "eee"s

Hannah H.

-good posture and stance

-I want her to make more use of her breath and her body (not sure how to do that)

-more musicality might help connect herself and her body to the song

-keep the vowels focused and forward (don't modify on the higher notes)

Emily H.

-would love some more diction and focus in the vowels (I understand that memory can make words hard to focus)

-lots of excess air in the tone; more efficient use of the breath would help her get through more of her phrases

-would love to her some vibrancy in the tone; would intonation issues when approaching the higher range

Cassie I.

-sound seems a little "squeezed," there is definitely more sound in this singer (nerves could also contribute to this)

-transition between passaggi is a little "squirrely," normal for singers just getting into classical rep

-I think I want more "open" breath support from her

Jessie K.

-on the lower notes, find placement closer to "speaking voice"

-tone became more focused as character became more involved

-very dark tone, which is beautiful, but don't let it get trapped in the back of the throat (especially in this genre)

-want more "belt" and forward place throughout (definitely in the lower notes)

-very entertaining and good work vocally

Miranda M.

-would love some more "bite" and focus in the tone (it's very beautiful and floaty, but it's getting lost in the throat; "up and out", not just up)

-would love some more musical levels

-keep the stance more grounded for better breath support

Brynlee D.

-focus the "ooo" vowels a little more (don't come off the voice)

-use the breath support in the "belt-y" section throughout the song

-if you are coming off of the voice for stylistic reasons, make sure you don't lose intonation

Overall this lesson was incredibly exciting. A lot of things I've been struggling with the last couple weeks clicked into place for me. ...
