Kaylee Borchert - McCoy - Ch. 3

Posture can be established by leaning against a wall with bent knees and feet in front (wall sit position?) Then standing up so keeping the same posture of the vertebra and singing. Another exercise you can do is bending at the hips and elongating the spine, this allows there to be space for the abdomen to release making the exercise actually effective. Most people believe that when you breathe from your diaphragm that the outward movement is the diaphragm expanding, when really it expands upward. The abdominal muscles do not all contribute to expiratory activity which is good for singers.

Application: My favorite thing from this chapter was when it talked about breathing exercises and the misconceptions that sometimes follow those as well as the misconceptions with the way certain muscles and things expand or contract. I want to think more and be more in tune with my body and the way it is moving as I do my exercises. Can I feel the way things are working and actaully being applied...
