Summary: A lot of anatomy, which is important to know when
trying to communicate and discover the best way to produce a desired effect in
singing.
Key Words:
Anterior view – when an object is seen from the front.
Posterior view – when an object is seen from the back.
Lateral view – when an object is seen from the side.
Horizontal section – imagine a line across your belly parallel
to the ground, essentially the x-axis.
Sagittal section – imagine a line straight down the middle,
separating left from right, essentially the y-axis.
Longitudinal section – imagine a line straight down cutting
through the middle of your shoulders, separating front from back, essentially
the z-axis.
Cranial – toward the head.
Caudal – toward the tail/away from the head.
Medial – toward the center of the body.
Lateral – away from the center of the body.
Cardiac muscle – found only in the heart, involuntary,
composed of long striated fibers that are resistant to fatigue.
Smooth muscle – found in stomach, intestines, bronchial
tubes, as well as blood cells, involuntary.
Skeletal muscle – connected to skeletal structures (bones!),
composed of striated fibers, voluntary movement (we can mostly control them,
however some muscles are not easily controlled unless practiced with a lot.
Application: Understanding anatomical terms will help me in
effectively communicating with others.
