Kaylee Borchert - McCoy - Ch. 10

Some teachers believe you shouldn't listen to yourself, rather the teacher should listen to you. Whereas, other teachers believe that listening to oneself while singing is an essential element for being able to sing properly. Hearing is essential to vocal sound, because as the brain sends signals through the nervous system to the muscles responsible for breathing, phonation, and articulation the brain and ears then monitor the sound for accuracy. The ears verify the sounds and results of what we sing.

Application: I realized that I often only critically judge how my voice sounds and when it doesn't sound good or when a note doesn't come out right. Thus, I want to pay more attention to when I have good singing days and am hitting good notes. What do I like about them? What am I hearing so that I can replicate it? This sounds so basic, but I think I often get so pulled into how things feel in my body and I am not truly listening.
