Chapter 8
Master coaches listen more than they talk, giving specific, individualized advice when they do talk.
"When I teach, I give everyone everything. What happens after that, who can know?"
- It's not possible to look at two seedlings and know which will grow taller.
Coach Wooden mostly just gives raw information when he coaches. Very few compliments and expressions of displeasure leave his mouth.
- M+ M- M+
Seek small improvements over large ones.
Kapitel 9
Knowledge! Recognize! Connect!
The Matrix
- Grid of task-specific knowledge that allows one to respond to a student's efforts
Perceptiveness
- Learn about your students. How are they in general? How are they today?
- Always check, so that you know when they don't know
The GPS Reflex
- Home in on where you want your students to be
- No requests! "Do this," rather than "Would you"
- Teach one step at a time
Theatrical Honesty
- Be the teacher your student needs in the moment
Applications:
When I teach, I must be very specific, but not only that, I must teach in a way that my students understand, no matter who they are.
I can take things one step at a time even in my personal studies. For example, I noticed while practicing the piano today that I tend to just play through the whole piece instead of isolating the parts that are difficult for me.
