Today, I felt pretty good about my voice, but I was a little overconfident at first. I focused a lot on engaging my core, which helped a lot, but I had to focus more on relaxing my jaw and keeping a good posture, especially in the legs. My legs tend to lock or spread too far apart, so we worked on that a little bit. We also ran through most of my program, so I could get to know how to transition from song to song. I also ran out of water, which made it difficult for me to stop my voice from trying to compensate. However, I was better able to support my notes when I focused on core support and opening the mouth properly. Over time, I became pretty comfortable with my posture and my jaw placement. One mnemonic device my teacher used for jaw placement was making the bottom lip sort of like a “dumb jaw” and keeping the more intelligent shape on the top lip, and that helped me a lot!
