She has a great understanding of the text and sense of character. She navigates the upper range of the voice with complete ease. The leaps were effortless. There was what seemed like a small disconnect on some of the upward runs, but not enough to have a noticeable impact.

He was able to navigate a lot of fast French in a way that it sounded easy. The sound could have had a little more of the sob feeling, but it still was able to move around his range in a very easy way. The face was engaged in the story, and I would like to see that translated more to the rest of the body.

She appeared nervous which could have been affecting her voice. I was in her lesson today, and most of the raspiness that is coming through is because she has been sick. On some of the higher notes she found a very nice resonating space.

On the more powerful higher notes she found a really nice resonating space. I would have personally liked to see that more consistently throughout the rest of the range. Despite that, it seemed like she was backing off of that sound for stylistic reasons, not because she couldn’t do it. I think leaning into that resonating space and a more relaxed abdomen would have helped get a little more easy strength in the half-time belt section.

There was a bit of breathiness in the sound I would try to work out, especially in the lower, more spoken sections. I think speaking through the text and thinking more speech-like could be used to get in the habit of phonating this in a more effective way. The farther she worked into the song the more she connected to the text and some of this was worked out. It sounded like the mixed area of her voice wasn’t her most comfortable, but she was able to utilize it in a way that seemed effective.

He is very confident and comfortable performing. It is very clear that he has put in the time necessary to understand exactly what is going on in these songs. There was such a contrast in his sound between the two songs. He went from a robust sound to a gorgeous legato without thought. His control was even better in the legato piece than it was in the more upbeat, marcato song.

Her voice is very pure and has a comfortable shimmer when she sustains notes. She navigated some challenging phrases throughout different ranges of her voice. Her posture seemed a little slumped forward, which I think made it seem like she was less engaged emotionally than she actually was.

Her voice is fascinating to me because it has a rich, motherly quality, yet because of the breathiness it comes across as younger. Any gestures were small and only with one hand. I would love to see the rest of the body believe this song. There was an area in the lower-middle area of her range that seemed uncomfortable, but when she got lower it opened up again.
Annika S-
I could hear a difference in timbre between her registers, yet she didn’t have a hard time navigating those areas. There was a slight breathiness as she worked better, but this was another instance where it seemed more stylistic and worked well with the jazz.
Tori T-
Her whole body lights up when she performs which is absolutely delightful as an audience member. It seemed like she had a hard time always finding internal space. In some notes while she was holding them, she would open the jaw mid-note to access the greater space. The vowels on the higher notes all started to sound the same, and it was a closed sound similar to a schwa. I would not choose that vowel in that range, but it seemed to work for her.
Kayla Winkle- Oblivion
She accessed her low range with ease, and it had a warmth, but still a light quality. She was able to jump between several different timbres within the course of the song. I loved how open she was on the high range. It was clear that she was intricately connected to the story. Her slow slides were stunning.
