This chapter really intrigued me. We were drilled a lot about the harmonic series in orchestration, so diving a little deeper into how it connects with singing got me very excited both as a voice teacher and a future choir teacher! Dr. Craig Jessop even discussed this as something to listen for as a choir director, because when you can hear overtones coming from your choir, that’s a way to tell that they’re in tune. There was also a couple sections that each talked about male and female voices, and I got hooked! I have always wanted to better understand male voices, and this helped me better understand what to do to help men when their voices change. The epilarynx section was quite helpful, too, and I was able to connect it with some of the things my voice teacher would talk about with me.
