Amelia-Voice lessons

In voice lessons, Venicia helped me with shape of my vowels. I was singing the song "Un Moto Di Gioia" and my voice was getting really tight. Venicia had me look at which sounds the mouth has to close for and which sounds the mouth can stay open for. Then we worked on keeping my mouth open as much as we could. I tried singing a few phrases like that and the difference was astounding! Last year, we had this same conversation and I remember that it really helped my singing for a while but I think I got lazy and forgot to keep working on it. So this time, my goal is to continue working on only closing my mouth for the consonants that absolutely need it and not close on dental consonants. Something I want to watch with this though is tongue tension. Last year, after I started doing this I started having tongue tension problems and I think I'm starting to feel tongue tension now. I think I'll have to play around with that and make sure I'm not placing my tongue in a weird position to make my vowels much more open and free. It's a hard trade off so hopefully I can figure out how to eliminate the tension so I can keep the open sound I've found on the higher notes.
I told her about Brianna's football player position and she had me try it and that really helped free my sound up and helped with throat tension.
We also worked on finding a balance between chest and head voice and did some 5 4 3 2 1 exercises to find consistency. It was interesting to find this place and I hope that by continuing to do these exercises I will be able to find more consistency to the sound in my lower range.
