CH10
Summary: Everybody needs somebody in order to become
someone. Creating a good connection with a student allows for the most
effective training, and every student needs a different approach to break the
ice with them.
Key words:
Connection – a bond between two individuals that requires
trust and respect. It allows for a deeper understanding of each other’s motivations
and aspirations.
Application: In order to be the most effective mentor I can
be, I need to modify my approach to suit the needs of each student.
EPILOGUE
The Myelin model can be applied to everything in life, not
just talent-related fields. In schooling, the quality of the teachers is what
affects the overall outcome of the quality of the students (as seen with
Finnish teachers and students). In business, working out the smallest problems can
improve the whole production (as seen with Toyota’s manufacturing company). In
psychology, having people linger in the uncomfortable area of shyness or
memories helps them myelinate the interaction as something normal and NOT scary.
Essentially, getting out of the comfort-zone and striving to
become better at failing is the road to success.
