Logan Kelley- Smith- Ch 1-3

 Summary:

Singing should be approached wholistically and not necessarily conventionally. We should think of how we can proactively produce healthy sound, not just the remedies for problems we are having. This involves tapping into our naked, meditative state that is as subconscious as speaking or breathing. Even our breathing should occur as it would as a baby, not in the way we have been culturally conditioned to breathe. We tend to hold our voice and breath based on the experiences of our lives. The natural, vernacular speaking voice should be used when singing.

Thoughts:

He mentioned something about not evaluating yourself as you sing which I found fascinating. I am conditioned to constantly receive feedback and adjust as I practice and perform. He mentioned that this isn't a great idea because this is like trying to create still art, when singing should be something that takes place through the dimensions of time. I understand how this could keep us authentically engaged in the moment, but I would think it would be difficult to progress without the feelings of feedback we would receive in the moment.
