Idk what was going on today but my voice felt horrible.
These are warmups.
Hngah 5-5654321
wiah 58531
- keep the brilliance and focus of [i] in [a]
- this felt a little stiff during my lesson. Going back and doing it again now, it feels fine. Even the A up top feels nice and free, with no change in the buzziness i'm feeling, no change in the larynx, etc. Amazing the difference a couple of hours can make.
You know, I had a lot of luck experimenting with warmups and drills this week. I think a good way I can expand the previous exercise is to add a long [n] to the beginning after it gets too high for me to start it easily- maybe around the D-F range, so that I feel the placement I'm looking for for G-A/Bb before I start the warmup.
Back to the warmups, which is mostly what we did today, thank goodness.
nine-note scale ah/oh/oo
- keep mouth open
- notwithstanding my sluggish-feeling voice, it appears that I've made substantial improvements in a rather short period of time. Yeah, it was a good week vocally

- ah
- no
- elongate the first two. Make the whole thing dramatic
- start off the voice on the first one, then crescendo, go to the second one, decrescendo, then finish the exercise
Aus meinen Tränen spriessen
- this is where I started feeling weird in my voice.
- tried singing it a bit louder. mf instead of mp
- we didn't talk about this, but sing through the consonants
- put some [i] in every vowel
Die Rose, die Lilie
- open ur mouth more
O Isis und Osiris
- Whoa, that was a D
- I'm coming off the voice here. Idk how but I am
wiah again
- feels supported and resonant again. Not sure how to reconcile this with the fact that my voice felt like garbage when singing actual music today.
holding tongue 1358531
- this actually feels fine up to a G, where it suddenly feels harmful.
wolf call
- aooooo
- bring ooo down
- start with nice breath
who are you
- start voiceless, then gradually add voice, but never too much
- stay on one pitch, more or less
who is Lou?
- emphasize [z] in "is"
who can do
see Sally sleep
see Sally sleep soundly by the sea
- really stay on those [s]
now do the breathy speech thing on the text from Billy in the Darbies
578 on a light sovt, like oo or vv (fff)
- let the breath carry the sound
