So many things go back to speech because we know how to do it healthily.
Spontaneous Combustion: refers to an onset with balanced chiaroscuro
Set yourself up for success by getting a clear and efficient onset.
2 types of onset: glottal, and beginning with air
Exercise 1: 5 short ah's in the middle range (the ah is created without the articulation so it will help you find a balanced chiaroscuro sound.)
If you set or hold "Ah" it will not sound like "ah".
For the ah vowel, raise soft palate and back of tongue
On vocal terms like cuttoff, attack, hit: who named these music terms? Find alternate names for these violent terms to help students.
Staccato notes: use consonants or use a glottal to stop the air between vowels.
Decrescendo at end of phrase= no tongue movement.
Wobble feels out of control-actually equals true freedom.
Wobble purpose: flexible airflow (might I add to reduce tension?)
Watch for squeezing on the wobble. It should be very free
The six inventions and what they help with
1. Chiaro
2. Oscuro
3. Chiaroscuro
4. Chiaro in Depth
5. Oscuro in Depth
6. Chiaroscuro in Depth
Resonance shifts for each section of our range and that's ok. Compare shifting gears.
"Oh" encourages air flow
Eleven tone scale use ee on the low, ah in the middle, and oh in the highest range.
The E above High C? With the Eleven tone scale? Teach me please! How? Even Altos?
Talks about access to flutey voice. Perhaps explore this exercise with attention to the "oh" on the highest portion.
