Voice Recital Hour
Layton L - Mein Zeinen, Mein Vinen
Very clear, slightly dark and rich sound
Keeps getting better and better!
Very operatic tenor
Shakes his head occasionally when singing vibrato, but not always.
Doesn’t do anything when singing the same vowel on different notes or in different registers, so that’s good!
The German sounds really great! All that diction practice has paid off!
Tim S - Dust and Ashes - Pierre Natasha
Very theatrical and clear!
Gorgeous voice!
Very gentle, yet well-grounded bass range!
Didn’t Josh Groban sing this song once?
Very diction-oriented, and he’s doing really, really well!
I can see various emotions being conveyed here, and I think it contributes well to this song!
My dad once suggested, as a former theatre class director, to have at least three different facial expressions or emotions while performing a monologue, and I think that applies well to musical theatre music, too!
Wow, so good at projecting that last note comfortably!
Taylor W - Thank You For the Music - ABBA
She sounds very head-voice based. However, though her low notes are a little soft they sound great!
She has some very natural expressions. I think it could use a little more exaggeration to better strengthen her support and convey more joy. You can never have enough!
Love the reference to her “golden hair”!
At “chance,” I thought she has a really gorgeous belted note going, but then she pulled back a little. I’m like, “No! You deserved that note! Don’t back out!”
Faith B - Scarborough Fair
I think she’s a Music Therapy major
Her posture and her jaw movement look very good, but I think she might need a little more breath support and lift in the soft palate. She sounds a bit tense.
The higher notes ring from time to time, and I think that shows progress!
Logan Kelley - Encanto…
Already, the facial expressions are drawing my attention!
I can understand everything clearly.
Encompasses his wide range pretty well!
Gideon B - Something’s Coming - West Side Story
Very diction related
I can understand everything very clearly, and I can understand what’s going on in the character’s story!
I noticed a register shift, but it was still rather smooth!
Collin C - Scottish Gaelic Lullaby (in the movie Brave)
I DO know what this song is!!! It’s gorgeous!
I want to learn Gaelic now!
The way he sings this really shows off his rich bass range!
Julia C - La Llorona
Mexican folk song from Coco!
A little breathy, but there are small moments where she has better breath support, but even more so in the higher range.
The vibrato sounds a lot better than the last year I heard her sang
I think the diction is great. It could just use a little more.
Meghan H - Got to Get Out - Ordinary Days
I think the jaw placement is a lot better during the more talky sections and such. I think she has been working on that.
Natural speech
Still comes forward a little sometimes though, especially if she’s holding some notes longer and with a higher dynamic.
Excellent diction and placement!
Amazing acting!
Mary Barlow - Flowers - Hades’ Town
Mixolydian, yet a very gorgeous and pleasing song!
Very clear and gorgeous! Of course, I might be a little biased, since I’m a Barlow myself.
