I have seen videos of how the laryngeal muscles and everything help produce the sound of your voice, and I think the chapter did a very great job at explaining the process more in depth. There was one moment where I had vocal folds and vocal chords confused, but turns out I was right, and vocal folds are the pearly-white “chords.” that contribute to vocal production, so I’m glad that was cleared up. With the text alone, I had to think a little deeper about what was being said, but the pictures helped me connect everything fairly well. Eventually though, I had a better understanding of what was described in the chapter. I think it’s also important, for me, to mention that I understand better now how the larynx serves as sort of a valve in your throat, which is why we need to keep the larynx at a low position. It seems like a weird connection to me, but as someone who plays the trumpet (both for enjoyment and for a class) it makes sense to me.
