Summary: Chapter 3 was all about the muscles that allow us to breathe. McCoy touched on many of the muscle groups required to breathe, but not all of them. He put a heavy emphasis on the diaphragm and how it allows us to breathe, especially as singers.
Application: This chapter allowed me to look at my own breathing habits and why some of my breaths and the ways I have been taught to breathe may be counterintuitive. I was always taught to breathe from the diaphragm, which is virtually impossible. One of things I was taught early on that McCoy writes about (and I will teach my students) is the inefficiency of clavicular breathing.
