Tanner Pruett - Voice Recital Hour - 9/16
Taylor Woolf
Someone Like You - Jekyll and Hyde
-overall great facial expressions and acting; would suggest finding one focal point for this song
-great mix voice, especially at the higher end of her range
-think she has more sound to give if she was more connected to body and used more breath
Faith Beasterfield
As Time Goes By - Herman Hupfeld
-very smooth voice; perfect for this style
-seems to be singing from the neck-up only, needs more breath and body (nerves could be affecting thins)
-would love some contrast in dynamics and musical levels
Timothy Steward
Confrontation - Jekyll and Hyde
-great character choices (take the "two sided" thing even further!)
-I love his vibrato, very even and clear (sometimes it's a little swallowed)
-great breath and resonant sound
Maribelle Taylor
When I Look at You - The Scarlet Pimpernel
-I would recommend showing more sides of "mourning" then just overall saddness(anger, pleading, sorrow, etc)
-very pleasant and classical sound
-her sound seems really reserved (I think she's only using like 50% of the sound she could have)
-I think more breath and power in the body overall would help get more sound
Kennan Thompson
Plaisir d'amour - Jean-Paul-Égide Martini
-very resonant and pleasant low range
-seems likes he "reaching" for his high notes, rather than letting them happen with support from the breath
-I would love some more specific acting choices (has the overall mood, but I'm not getting any of the story telling)
-maybe take a deep breath and relax before the start to help calm nerves
Laurence L.
Losing My Mind - Stephen Sondheim
-playing the piano and singing at the same time is crazy impressive (especially with Sondhiem!!!!)
-phenomenal diction and lovely vowels (I am clearly getting every word)
-the musical choices are very compelling and diverse (dynamics, levels, emphasis, etc)
-I sense a little excess tension on his higher notes in full voice, but his falsetto and vibrato are really lovely
Collin Crook
Money O! - Michael Head
-need more diction (I don't know what he's saying)
-he definitely has more sound in there (the piano is currently covering him)
-very proper and tall sound
-I am actually not sure what he needs to do to get his sound to travel farther (breath? something with the mouth? idk)
Julia Crowther
A Little Broken - Julia Crowther
-really impressive guitar/ukulele skills
-I really love her tone quality and pop-sound
-I sense a tiny bit of jaw tension (mostly in the softer parts)
-could use some more diction
-I love the use of diphthongs
Mariah Becker
My Favorite Things - The Sound of Music
-great diction!
-don't lose breath support on the higher sections!
-let the vibrato come through (seems like she's holding it back)
-very fun performance
Kristina Carter
How 'Bout A Dance - Frank Wildhorn
-love the acting choices in her inflections and overall mood, but I would not leave the hands out all the time (also don't close your eyes, cuts off the audience from the experience)
-really love her voice and vibrato (steady and clear)
-some slight placement issues on the higher range, but still really compelling and fun to listen to
Madelyn Hamilton
Lover Come Back to Me - The New Moon
-very unsupported and strained sound in the upper range
-love her commitment and ability to power through the memory slip
-How would you help a singer vocally who is at this beginning stage of their development? Where do you start?
Meghan Hatfield
More Than You Know - Nick Walkers
-I would let the vibrato go sooner on the end of phrases
-very full and big sound
-could use more of her breath of support her sound
-would love some more musicality
Kaylee Borchert
Der verlassene Mägdlein - Hugo Wolf
-great acting choices; the story telling was relatively clear (take it further!)
-I would love some more extreme dynamic changes
-very supported high range; transition between high and low seems to be a little shaky
-connect more to the body on the lower sections
Mary Barlow
Quiet - Johnathan Reid Gealt
-really beautiful, floaty, pleasant head voice
-more diction! I want to hear what you are saying
-need more body connection on the lower section (closer to her speaking voice)
-let it go! There is sound waiting to be released there!!!!!!!!!!!
-find a more stable singing stance, and more stable breath
-very nervous, maybe connect and commit to the character more
