Annika-Smith-Ch 4-6

“Change brings freedom, and freedom enables us to speak with pure intention…”

Finding the core of the voice through vernacular speech helps to free the larynx and any pressure surrounding it.

“Projection” vs. “louder”-- tell someone to sing or speak louder often leads to pressure, whereas telling someone to project allows for focus in the sound.

I feel like, so far, he’s explaining how to think about not thinking. For example, he talks about letting things happen often, like allowing back space to happen. He uses a lot of analogies, but I feel like overall, he’s just saying “let things happen the way they do naturally.”

I use Smith’s Free-Flowing Air Invention in my own warm ups and practice, but I’ve never thought about it the way he explains it regarding the consistent flow of air in order to create a fluty sound. I’ve only ever thought about it to help bridge my registers.
