Chapter 7 Summary: This chapter was about how to maintain good vocal health. There are many things that seemed pretty obvious to me such as staying hydrated, don't smoke, avoid drugs as much as you can (illegal and legal), and rest. Some things that I didn't realize had an effect on your voice (or didn't necessarily think about the connection) is to always wear a seatbelt (that makes sense), as well as practice safe sex. One thing that is really important as well is to speak well and sing well. You can hurt your voice if you misuse your voice. This is a problem for me because I like to go to sporting events and I tend to yell very loud. He then goes through some of the different diseases that can effect singing. I'll be 100% honest, this part really grossed me out and I felt like I had a lump in my throat the entire time. Something important to note is to always see a professional whenever you feel that you may have issues with your voice. Get it taken care of sooner than later.
Application: This information is very important to know as a vocal teacher because you should give your students good tips on how to maintain a healthy voice. I know for me, the thing that has helped me so much is to stay in good physical shape and drink a lot of water. There have been many times when my voice has been froggy or just not feeling good and it's because I didn't get enough water. Water can solve a lot of issues!
