Kennan Thompson - McCoy - Ch. 10

Chapter 10 Summary:

There are three regions of the ear: inner ear, middle ear, and the outer ear. The outer ear helps collect and direct sound from the outside world into the middle and inner ear. The middle ear is where the sound vibrates and travels into the inner ear. The inner ear is there for hearing as well as balance. Hearing is a way for singers to monitor their sound. Something that is important to note is that the way a singer hears themself is different than how others hear them.

Application:

It's important for a teacher to know how students hear themselves so they can help them match that with how others hear them. Also, it's important to have the students record themselves so they can hear themselves as others do. They may make some different choices in their singing.
