Voice Lesson Evaluation September 8th, 2021

We did a lot of warm-ups that focused on lowering my larynx and relaxing my throat muscles while circulating my airflow and bringing the sound forward. One particular warm-up that we did was by hearing the top note of a run while breathing in and then completing the airflow "circle" by releasing it on the rest of the run. Another exercise we did was for me to sing an arppegiation of sorts on a "v" sound. Doing this really helped to get a ping in my voice. I only wish that I had actually recorded this lesson so that I could remember and review a little bit better.

The repetoire that we worked on was "When I Look At You" from The Scarlet Pimpernel. I sang through the song the first time and discovered that I was singing the notes on a phrase wrong and was coming down one note too early. So we practiced singing it the correct way. As I sang it the second time, my airflow was a lot better and I was able to get through the emotional ending of the song without running out of air. We also discussed me thinking of "P" as a different color and not necessarily a different level of intensity or being too quiet. I chose the color indigo to represent the very end of the song because it is a melencholy sort of feeling with just enough of the anger or red from the part before to color it purple. When I sang the song the last time I had more of a consistent forward sound in my voice that wasn't present before, and the end of the song didn't lose intensity or air.
