Saige Barlow - Voice Recital Hour Evaluations

Taylor W. - Someone Like You

  • Great posture, except for the locked legs and the turtle head, but that’s beside the point.

  • Very clear and well-supported.

  • Sounds like you!

  • I notice that the shoulders come forward when you put your hands in front of your abdomen, but when they’re more to the side the voice and your shoulders open up significantly.

  • Great preparation for the treble Eb!

  • Gorgeous vibrato used very appropriately!

Faith B. - As Time Goes By

  • Seems a little nervous by the locked knees and the tension in the voice.

  • Pitches and rhythm are excellent!

  • Everything sounds very leisurely!

  • I have noticed much improvement! Great job!

Tim S. - Confrontation from Jeckle and Hyde

  • Nice character voices!

  • Dramatic changes are very entertaining!

    • Clear difference between Jeckle and Hyde!

    • Looking in two different directions for each characters

  • Probably one of my very favorite performance of yours! Bravo!

Maribelle T. - When I Look At You

  • A lot more vibrato than I have heard before. It sounds beautiful, and I like how it has changed, too!

    • Usually, I don’t like that much vibrato for musical theatre, but for this song it comes off as a useful contributor to the sadness perhaps (sounds like the character is about to sob without actually sobbing). :)

  • Minimal, yet effective movement in acting!

  • Dramatic expression of emotion :)

  • Dynamic contrast sounds great!

Kennan T. - Plaisir D’Amour

  • Nice bass foundation!

  • Excellent pronunciation!

  • I love the expressions you’re conveying! I can you can tell what the words in the song mean in English!

Lawrence L. - Losing My Mind

  • Self-accompanying and memorized completely!

  • Very expressive and gorgeous!

  • Very repetitive phrases, but you find ways to make it contrast!

  • My mom might like the vibrato, but I’m not my mom, so…I like it! (My mom took voice lessons in college here at Utah State as an elective)

  • Amazing performance!

  • I think Rachel Hayes performed this once for Masterclass.

Collin C. - Money-O (I think that’s what it’s called. I might’ve misheard it)

  • You can tell his voice is better for Celtic singing, but I love the bass colors of his voice!

  • Very articulate!

  • Excellent stance!

  • Huge leap down! DANG!

  • Like a very confident story-teller!

Julia C. - A Little Broken

  • Original song

  • A little folky for my taste, but I can tell she’s supporting her voice pretty well!

  • Amazing dynamic contrast!

  • I like the lyrics!

Mariah B. - My Favorite Things

  • Love this song!

  • Significant improvement!

  • Very expressive!

    • I like the child-like perspective you contribute!

Kristina C. - How ‘Bout a Dance?

  • I like this song!

  • Very flirty! I like that! It contributes well to the song!

  • Gorgeous!

  • Excellent dynamics!

  • I can tell you understand the text and its context really well!

  • I would like to add a little more jazz to this song!

  • Very good with support!

Madelyn H. - Lover, Come Back to Me from New Moon

  • Gorgeous vibrato!

  • I wonder what would happen if you opened up your mouth a little more.

  • Sweetness in your voice - love it!

  • Great expression! I’d like to see more!

  • Don’t be timid on the high note! It sounds great!

Megan H. - More Than You Know

  • I’m noticing some tension, and I wonder if the jaw has anything to do with it. It’s sticking out quite a bit.

  • Maybe some nerves?

  • I like the lower range! You seem to be more comfortable in the lower range.

  • The eyebrows could be a little less compressed. My dad struggles with that from time to time, and so do I…

  • I think the breath support is pretty good! I bet it might be from practicing the trumpet—we’re in high brass techniques together. :)

Kaylee B. - something in German…

  • Gorgeous vibrato as always!

  • Gorgeous soprano notes! You should sing more soprano! :)

  • Excellent text interpretation!

  • I noticed you have an excellent use of engagement of the core! Great job!

Mary B. - Quiet

  • Ah, another Barlow! We must be related!

  • Amazing facial expressions!

  • Great expression and support!

  • Fun dynamic contrast!

  • I think Sadie might’ve sung this once.
