Brianna Skeen-Master Class 9/21/21

Master Class with Dr. Cindy Dewy

Kat H.

Mein Herz by Schumman

-Be more "up" or more excited about the text.

-What's the difference between stage acting and real life?

-Most singers have hidden neck tension. Attempting to sing in a different position can help you to discover tension or a release of tension. You can discover what is different and try to get what was better when you were singing in a different position to match when you are in a normal 'singing' position.

-"It's not about where you are in this moment. It's about where you are headed" by Dr. Cindy Dewy

-Neck tension, jaw tension, tongue tension are common locations of tension. We want our jaw to feel like it's melting to the back. Learn to balance your head on your neck without using your neck muscles.

-Practice speaking the text with the softest jaw position until it feels easy. This builds meylin for those muscles.

Nalani M.

Don Pasquale

-She has a really nice and open sound. Very animated and good at story telling especially in her eyes.

-Can you sing the song with a different emotion? Sometimes it helps to add a sobbing feeling to add more focus to your sound.

-You DO NOT want to add pressure to your vocal folds to produce a more cutting sound. Use different techniques to get there.

-Try panting for a long phrase. Try to release the pressure in the abdominal wall by panting to convince your body that you aren't running out of air.

-Wether its good or not you have to just go for it. Don't worry about wether or not it sounds good, just do it.

Camilla H.

Vanilla Ice Cream from She Loves Me

-It sounds like she has a lot of jaw tension and is holding the sound in her throat. The sound got more open as the song went on though. She seems to be really timid about some of the higher points in the song.

-I love how she uses her phone as prop to act out the situation.

-Add twang by making the "cartoon voice"that is OF the nose not IN the nose. Use it in

-We want carrying power not neccsssarily to sing louder. We want to divorce our voice from our larynx and leave it in its "at rest" position.
